New Words

When you work with a bunch of Government employees and Military folk like I do, you will hear the most acronyms and new words from them than anyone else in the world. Most are just acronyms for long winded equipment or procedures, but are some are just new words they've made up to add meaning to something they dislike. If you end up having a new word or phrase named after you, it's normally not a compliment.

Now we make public a few definitions of two new words made up by my co-workers:

Sidification:
1)Taking the English language into your own hands (Please reference squeeze/sqoze)
2)The courage to take something that works and mangle it beyond recognition (unbusified)

A'hall'd
1) When the ability has been sucked out of you to care for the plight of your fellow man, you have been A'hall'd.
2) When you help out a friend and their only reply is sarcasm, you have been A'hall'd.
3) When you send out the funniest thing you've heard in weeks and your significant other's only comment is correct your grammar, you have been A'hall'd.

Have any to add??

Thanks to Yo-Yo for coming up with and emailing the meanings to me so we could post them..

Father's Day and Government Employees

Not much of a post for right now. I just hadn't written in a week, so I wanted to throw something up here real quick. Things are still going good with Darling Bride and Baby-to-Be. D.B. Has started to get some pre-labor cramps and isn't feeling 100% now-a-days, so it's just a matter of time now. She became "full term" this past Saturday and now we play the waiting game. Baby-to-Be's room is about 90% complete. Of course, she won't use it for the first few months, so I'm not sure why it was such a rush job to finish, but, as in all other families, when Mama's happy, everyone's happy, so we'll just keep Mama happy. I did have my first "partial" Father's Day. I got a new coffee mug, a #1 dad paperweight for my desk and a framed ultrasound picture for my desk. Kinda cool, considering she isn't even born yet.

Work is still the same. Remember the movie, "Dances with Wolves?" Although, I never saw it, the title is close to what I do here. But, we would have to change it to say: "Works with Idiots." I don't mean the people I work directly for or with in my shop, but the people on the other side of the Base that are "supposed" to treat us like customers. Those people are about as clueless and useless as a Vice President or Director at ITC^Deltacom. "Works with Idiots" is a title most Government Employees can relate too. It always gets me how these people want to get paid, but they don't want to do shit to earn it. They feel like just coming into work everyday, drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes is enough to get them their paycheck. Like I said: USELESS. I won't even get into the idiot portion because I don't have that kind of time to write today.

I will leave on this note: If the past tense of "freeze" is "froze" why isn't it the same with "squeeze" and "squoze?"

This Week

Another week.. Actually, I was going to do an entry earlier this week to talk about my trip to Six Flags with my sister and her two kids. I never got the chance to sit down and write it so I'm going to mention it briefly here. We had a great time. We hit the new coaster called "Goliath." A MASSIVE coaster. It actually goes outside the park and then back in. One of the funniest things that happened during the day was our ride on "Thunder River." We all climbed in the 12 person boat. The boat is round consists of 6 two person sitting stations around it. My niece and I sat together in one station. My nephew sat on one side of us and my sister sat on another side of us. Each of them had one empty seat next to them, so my sis told my nephew to come over and sit with her. He didn't want too, but he did. The last thing he said was, "If we get soaked, it's going to be your fault." My niece and I moved over to where he was sitting originally and left the empty station between us and my Sister. Yeah... After the ride was over, my niece and I had wet shoes. My nephew had a wet head and shoulder. My sister didn't have a dry stitch on her anywhere. She was thoroughly soaked from head to toe. Heh.. I guess she'll listen to Nephew next time. But, we had a great time and would love to go back. But, I think I just took my last trip out of the immediate area for awhile due to the baby coming. Which, of course segways me into the other story of the day, our birthing class.

Darling Bride and I had a "Birthing Class" today and the Medical Center where our baby girl will be delivered. It was scheduled from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. So, as you can imagine, I wasn't digging the thought to spending all day at the Hospital. But, being the good hubby I am, I headed up there with her to do this thing. We got up there and there were 12 other couples in there. We went through nutrition, exercise and stress relief, what to expect before during and after labor and delivery, watched a film (more that in a minute) and took a tour of the facilities. Over all, it was a very informative day for people having their first child. There was one other couple in there that was scheduled to deliver 2 days before us and then all the rest were anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months after us. In every class you have the spectrum of people and this one was no different. Next to me was a Good Ol Southern Boy who would gut a deer without batting an eyelash. But, when they started talking about the placenta and episiotomy, he was about to lose his cookies. Then, they were nice enough to show us a film about child birth. This ain't know film you're going to see on Lifetime or The Learning Channel. This is true, in your face, this is what it looks like to have a kid uncensored documentary stuff. During this time, Good 'Ol Boy was hiding behind his wife like scared teenager at a slasher movie. He should be fun in the delivery room. Then we also had a nurse who was preggo for the first time. And, oh what a joy she was to be around. First we learned that she had dehydrated and something else had gone wrong so she was hospitalized. Then, when we were doing types of exercises she couldn't do some of them because she had bad knees. Then we were doing other stretches and she couldn't do them because she had a bad neck and then she was worried about medicine because she had asthma. She complained about everything and was worried and anything. At one point, after the husbands had been massaging parts of the wives for about 10-15 minutes, the instructor had us switch places and had the ladies run the guys shoulders for about 3 minutes. Just a little payback for the guys to enjoy one thing during the day. The asthmatic, bum kneed, yanked neck, dehydrated chick refused to rub her husband's shoulders. We figured she had bad hands, or maybe she was just a bitch. (My vote) What ever the case, after watching her sunny personality radiate all day, she had most of us wondering how she ever got pregnant in the first place.

Speaking of which, I did cause a bit of embarrassment for Darling Bride today. But before I get to that, I do have to mention my good bits. At one point, we were supposed to sit behind our wives and help them steady in some posture thing. At he same time I was steadying her, I was also rubbing her shoulders. The instructor looked over and said how great I was for doing that and Good Ol Boy called me a show off. I was listed as the star pupil after that. But, like they say, it only takes one "aw shit" to take away all the "atta-boys." And, of course, I lost my atta-boys. We were being shown how to massage the ladies and help them relieve some stress when the labor thing starts up. At one point, the ladies were told to get on all fours on the ground and the guys were told the get behind the ladies on their knees. After we were in the position, I looked up at the rest of the class and said, "This is what got her in this condition." Awww Shit.

It's June

Can you believe it? It's already June. Almost half way through 2006 already.. Where does the time go now-a-days?? With a new month also comes another Reserve Duty weekend. At the time I'm thinking about this, it's early Sunday morning. By the time I publish, it will be early Sunday evening. I write down my ideas whenever they hit me, then I publish them after I get home in the afternoon. Right now, all I'm thinking is: Where does the time go? Our lives are so non-stop these days, the first time we sit down to look at the past, more has gone by than what we thought. It's amazing how quick everything goes by. Of course, they always say, "Time flies when you're having fun." And, I am. I am loving life and all that goes with it. There was a time, back from about 1996 to 2001 that life, in general, sucked.
I lived in Columbus, GA back in that time. I love Columbus, but jobs were few and far between. I had gotten out of the Air Force and took a job with, what I thought was going to be, a great technology based company based out of a little town on the AL-GA border. Well, the company ended up being a second rate piece of shit with a Redneck Good 'Ol Boy club as it's company officers. Of course, with disfunctional half-breeds running the company, it was bound to go bankrupt. And, it did. But, while I was working there, I hated life. I wasn't even a nice person to be around because I hated just about everything was to do with that job, that town and most everything else. After they fired me, things started to look up some. But only slightly. I was still working and I had started racing. I got screwed over about a year later by someone who said they were a friend. And, they may have been, but with friends like that, I sure didn't many more of them. Things went downhill fast for the next few months and it was about to hit rock bottom. But, luckily, the job I'm at now came my way near the end of that time. It wasn't until I got the job where I'm at now and moved away from that entire area that things started to really look up. I started working with people that new meaning of "teamwork" and had a great higher echelon to look up to. Darling Bride got a job with a real good company that treats their people the way companies should treat them. She has also made her way up in the company and is happy where she is. We've been able to buy and sell a couple of houses and all around live a great life. Now, in about 5 weeks or so, our lives are going to take another turn. Our new bundle of joy should be here in about that time frame. She is actually due on 8 July, so we'll see what happens. If I think life has passed by fast up until now, I can't imagine what it's going to be like while watching my little girl grow up. Speaking of which, Darling Bride has her 3rd of 3 baby showers today.

On other notes: We'll be making our first trip to Six Flags Over Georgia this coming Tuesday. Sister's hubby doesn't like to ride a lot of stuff, so I usually take his place when these trips come up. So, Sis, niece, nephew and I are all headed up Tuesday to do the rides. A group from work has a trip planned for the 13th, so we'll be headed back up there on that day. 2 trips in two weeks will be fun.

I'm starting to have dive withdrawals. I haven't been able to dive since March and I'm really itching to go. Unfortunately, there aren't places local to hit, so any diving would have be done 3 -4 hours away. I'm not comfortable doing that with baby so close to coming, so I'll just have to wait. Mom and Dad's pool will be open sometime in the next week, so maybe I'll just throw on my gear and hit the pool for a bit. It'll be better than nothing at all. I think I'm going to contact ScubaSteve and ask him if there is ANY place around here we can do some diving and I can earn another specialty or two. This non-learning break is killing me. I want to learn more and get qualified for more. Come October, I'll be able to get back into the swing of things. I've got a Rescue Diver class scheduled and as soon as I pass that, I'll go directly into my Divemaster training. Then I will learning A LOT over the next 4-6 months. That will be fun. Until then, I'll just do what I can.

Hope everyone has a great week and I'll write more when I get the urge.
